"Last Supper, Seated Figure Left" - 1996

39" x 19" - oil on canvas

Two sketches for the painting above indicate that David's idea for this work changed little as it made its way to canvas. All three share the same compositional idea and basically the same elements. The differences are subtle, in the expressions and demeanors of both the Christ figure and in the figure on the right. Both have the strange, isolated figure sitting on a chair, which shows up in a few other Last Supper paintings. The place with the most change occurs within the middle group of disciples, with differing body languages and gestures.
